Choir students

At Roosevelt School of the Arts, our Choir program celebrates the power of the human voice to inspire, connect, and transform. Students develop strong vocal technique, music literacy, and performance skills while exploring a wide range of repertoire from classical to contemporary. Through concerts, festivals, and community performances, our choirs foster collaboration, confidence, and a lifelong love of singing.

Choir Courses:

Mixed Choir (Beginning Choral Ensemble)
Mixed Choir is an entry-level choral ensemble designed for students who are new to high school choir or want to develop fundamental vocal skills. Students learn healthy vocal technique, music literacy, and ensemble singing in a supportive setting that emphasizes teamwork and confidence-building. Repertoire includes a variety of styles and languages appropriate for beginning singers. Public performances provide opportunities for students to share their progress and gain valuable stage experience.

Women’s Choir Advanced (Audition Only)
Women’s Choir Advanced is an auditioned ensemble for motivated students who have already developed strong choral skills and are ready to perform more advanced repertoire. This ensemble focuses on vocal artistry, refined ensemble techniques, and music literacy at a higher level. Students work on diverse and challenging literature for treble voices, often in multiple parts and languages. Public performances highlight the group’s progress as singers advance toward Level IV and V of the district’s Course of Study and California Music Standards.

Performing Arts Singers (Advanced Choral Ensemble, Audition Only)
Performing Arts Singers is the school’s premier choral ensemble, open by audition to highly dedicated and accomplished vocalists. Members are expected to demonstrate strong musicianship, independent practice habits, and advanced vocal technique. The ensemble performs challenging repertoire across a wide range of styles, with emphasis on excellence, expressivity, and collaboration. Students are held to the highest standards of artistry and professionalism, often representing the school at concerts, festivals, and community events.
